What’s Here and Who is Amy?
This is a place to learn about becoming more of Who You Are. We talk about adventures in being human. Because when you’re being exactly Who You Are, things fall into place and life is about:
- Joy and ease, not struggle.
- Acceptance, not pushing against.
- Choice and creation, not simply reacting.
Start here for more on this: Whose underwear are you wearing?
What’s a Pattern?
“I just looked at the pattern of my life, decided I didn’t like it, and changed.” — David Sedaris
Yeah, we also talk a lot about Patterns here.
Patterns are our automatic, default ways of being. Some are positive and helpful. We don’t pay much attention to those ones.
Others are unpleasant and more destructive. Unwanted Patterns can prevent you from being Who You Are and living an Enlightened life that you create. So we focus on those.
Here are some examples of unwanted Patterns:
- The way you snap at your husband/mistress/kids/cat when you’re under stress
- How you’re always attracted to the wrong people or replay the same relationship issues
- The way you use shopping or cupcakes or Farmville or heroin to avoid life
To live Enlightened, it helps to be aware of your Patterns and then to rewire them if they aren’t working for you. This blog helps you do that. Busting your not-helpful Patterns is totally achievable.
Start busting your Patterns here: How you do anything is how you do everything and Other posts on Patterns
Who is Amy, anyway?
I’m not Enlightened in the guru, all-knowing, spiritual mentor kind of way. Not even close.
I’m just really into all things self-development and I’m constantly working on my stuff. Always have been. When other kids were reading Dr. Seuss, I was reading Wayne Dyer and Zig Ziglar.
I’ve been working on my own personal-development for years and I apply the principles I learn to my own life as an experiment. Then I share them with you.
So, I write about my issues, where I get stuck, where I find Enlightenment, and you see yourself in my stuff. We all win.
And…
- I’m a master certified life coach. So I’m really good at helping people rewire their patterns and generally be happier people with lives that rock .
- I’m a social psychologist. So I know a little about the brain, how change works, why we do the things we do, and what makes people tick.
- I’ve taught university-level psychology. I’ve consulted on several high-profile court cases. I’ve spoken to audiences around the country on things like workplace well-being, happiness, positive psychology, and being Enlightened.
- I co-wrote a book and I wrote a popular advice column. I currently write for several online magazines and websites.
- I’ve sailed completely around the world. I’m the wife of a Green Bay Packer fanatic and the mom of an almost always smiley little girl. I’m into coffee and travel and green smoothies and documentaries and library books and sleeping through the night. I’m a 7 on the Enneagram. I live in Chicago and work with clients worldwide via telephone and virtual coaching programs.

And here’s another visual for you, if you’re into that sort of thing.
